San Francisco

Last week, I traveled to San Francisco with my fellow third-year residents for a national conference. I'd never been to SF, so I charted until 2AM and caught the 5:30AM flight just to spend the day. I know - I'm crazy. :-)

Jasmine and I spent Fri afternoon at the Academy of Sciences within Golden Gate Park.

They have a natural science museum, a rain forest, an aquarium, and a planetarium.
Couldn't resist this tiny tortoise :-)

We walked past this lovely garden; didn't make it to the Japanese tea gardens because my feet hurt. :-) (It was October anyway.....)

We had dinner at a tapas restaurant that night. On Saturday morning, conference began. I attended the most lectures that day....after that, the battle of learning vs discovering the city had begun. :-)

Our conference center

We were situated right in the financial district/downtown

Saturday night, we took the streetcar to Fisherman's Wharf....

And had dinner with the whole group at Alioto's

Since I couldn't head out to the bars :-), I went to the Ghirardelli chocolate shop with some of my attendings........pumpkin spiced caramel hot chocolate - yum!

On Sunday, after conference, I took the cable car back to the wharf for an evening tour of Alcatraz.

A bare cell - the prisoners were typically sent here after misbehaving at other prisons, so they had to earn everything except shelter, food, and medical care.

With good behavior, maybe their cell could be more home-y

Monday was the day of good food - I think I spent most of my conference stipend that day. :-) Christine and I had brunch at our beautiful hotel

The restaurant had a gorgeous glass ceiling

I had a dim sum lunch (asian a la carte) with Crick and Kim (and 8 week old Ellory) and Saad and Emily (and 5 week old Jude) - the babes are hiding under their breastfeeding covers. :-)

Dinner was at Bobo's, famous for their filet and whole crabs.

We then walked (with our full bellies, up very steep streets) to Lombard St, the 'crooked' street - got a great view of the wharf.

On Tuesday, I came home to see hubby for a couple days before his trip to Cali!
