Family Visit!
.... time for another super-sized blog posting!
Mom and Dad arrived last Tuesday at the end of my last day of internal medicine - I could not WAIT for the day to be over! We spent the first night and next morning just hanging out... cooking, running errands, chatting....
Dad made a friend in Pigwidgeon - he fed her lettuce and let her out of the aquarium to roam around, and she wouldn't leave him alone! She was crawling all over him - I've never seen her so friendly!!

Pilot mountain.........

There was a trail around the base of the mound.....

On the way home, we visited Shadow Springs vineyard, where A, R, and myself participated in a wine tasting while M&D walked around the lake. Their specialties were a chocolate infused wine and a strawberry wine - they mixed them at the end for a chocolate-covered-strawberries taste....yum! :-) We couldn't resist buying a couple bottles for home....

Wednesday night, Dad went to pick Anna and Ryan up from the airport - their first visit to North Carolina!!
On Thursday, we went for lunch at the Deacon Tower Grille, which is at the Wake Forest football stadium.
...overlooking the field. It was a nice place; I had a crabcake sandwich - yum!
We spent the evening cooking together at home and watching movies - we all needed a little R&R. :-)
Friday, we went hiking at Pilot Mountain State Park.
On one of the fences, someone had carved 'Mommy loves Lucy' - we had to take a pic! :-)

On Saturday, we stopped by Chapel Hill on the way to the airport. Ryan got to see the basketball arena where the TarHeels play!!!
Chapel Hill was beautiful! Spring in NC is so lovely, and it was even better in the setting of an historic campus......

It was a little like ISU meets U of I.....lovely old buildings, lots of green space - but also a great shopping district on the periphery with fun shops and restaurants. We had a great time just walking around, having lunch, and enjoying the day.... spring football + a baseball game. Lots of baby blue!
Lots of babies - the cutest were the lemurs!!

Anna's camera has the pic of Ryan feeding the zebra - hopefully she posts it! :-)
Loved the shaggy little long-horn.

The yak (I think) who wouldn't move out of the road. We kept inching forward, but he wasn't intimidated by the Escort. :-)

Baby mountain goats!

A deer beneath the flowering trees.......

That night, after the airport, the sissies + their husbands went to The Book of Eli (and enjoyed some chocolate wine). :-)
On Sunday, we went to mass together before heading toward the airport for Anna and Ryan's flight. We stopped at the nearby Lazy 5 Ranch which lets you feed the animals while you drive through the park.
