Family Visit

Mom, Dad, and Dana came to visit at the end of July. It was great to see family, and so fun to show someone our new home and hometown!

Our first sight-seeing venture was to Korner's Folly, advertised as the strangest house in the world.

Apparently, it is known as such because its owner and designer was a furniture maker and architect who wanted to display his work (in its many different forms) in his home. Every doorway, window, fireplace, and piece of furniture was unique in some way - no two alike! He would invite clients to his home to see their options - kind of like an IKEA! :-)

The house was full of ornate furniture.........

Amazing fireplaces........

and all sorts of nooks and crannies (some quite small!).

Our next stop was Hanging Rock, the state park that Mark and I visited earlier this summer. Dad inspired us to follow the path of a waterfall....

Mark was working long hours, unfortunately....but he was able to join us for dinner later at one of our favorite restaurants - Fourth St Filling Station.

The next day, we visited Reynolda Village and Gardens. This is the property adjacent to the home of R.J. Reynolds (think 'tobacco'), which used to be his stables and staff housing. The buildings are now home to quaint shops & restaurants, and the gardens next door are beautiful.
